However it provides all the basic files that you may not have the knowlege to create to you and have no explaination on any one of them.

It only provide very limited exemples for this software and leaves a mayority of its functions and terms uncovered. I bought another book called Adobe It is almost the same presentation that only gives a few exemple and reprints some paragraphs from the Adobe CS6 manuals.

Given that, Angie Taylor and Todd Kopriva are genial and often engaging trainers for this high-power creation beast. Both have been actively involved in using AE since the early version, and they are both knowledgeable about the “innards” and uses of this modern-production mainstay. The reference ciips are thorough and useful, and I highly recommend this course.

My son and I have been watching this diligently, and are disappointed. Either Adobe After Effects is not useful at all, or this video does not show what After Effects is really useful for. The videos seem to lack pedagogical ability. They delve into details, but a logical thread is missing. We are still wondering why bother with After Effects. We have yet to see what worthwhile product might come out of it. I find that free youtube videos, although sometimes hard to understand because of the accents, do a comparatively decent job of showing what After Effects really is for and how to use it, in laymen terms.

AE is really an amazing piece of software, with a huge range of tools at your disposal. These videos cover a good breadth of topics and often do so in quite a lot of detail. I was a total newbie to AE, but after watching this I felt conversant enough in all the tools AE offers to dive in and do a huge variety of things. It can be a bit hard to follow at times, and at a few points to I needed to do future research online to understand what the author was talking about.

None of those, however, take away from the talent of Mark Christiansen to plainly and comprehensively explain complex topics in compositing and how they are applied in After Effects. Good info, clearly explained by an expert in VFX and compositing. Regardless, there is a lot to be learned in this book, and I will probably buy Mark’s future editions. This book contains numerous tips and techniques on a variety of topics. It can be a bit hard to follow at times, and at a few points to I needed to do future research online to understand what the author was talking about.

Also, some of the project files he refers to seem to be missing from or differently named on the disc, but I didn’t find it to be to problematic, I just followed along to my own comps.

This is a must have for any AE users looking to refine their skills. Starting out learning and as you go with the chapter and DVD it makes sense. Informative and helpful, but like every other textbook it’s long winded when it doesn’t need to be and lacks information when you crave more of it. I wouldn’t recommend this book.

I trust him in his knowledge. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know how to impart it. The book is confusing, although it tries to come across in a conversational manner. Even if you have some familiarity with After Effects, the author does a horrible job of passing on his technical knowledge. I’ve read the first few chapters multiple times, and have not gotten better at my understanding of what he’s trying to teach.

In other words, if you try to rely on the pictures to help understand the text, you will be confused because they don’t always coincide. Sometimes they match up, I think, but you never know when they do or not. If you want to learn After Effects, go to VideoCopilot. That’s where I picked up my beginner’s knowledge. One person found this helpful. This is the third edition if this book that I own, and as all of the previous editions, it provides the reader with the valuable information and useful techniques.

The presenters are nice and seems to know their stuff, but perhaps would be better to beginner, middle and advanced versions with projects that build as you go between the levels and possible even have 2 topic ranges, Movies after effects and animation after effects.

They’re split up into logical subject chapters, and within those they are broken into bitesize videos of mins length, in which either Angie or Todd who are both clear, engaging hosts will show you how a particular part of AE’s interface works or what tools you use to achieve a particular technique. They’re a little picture-in-picture ‘watch while you work’ mode but the best thing to do would be to load the vids on a tablet and have AE open on your computer.

AE is really an amazing piece of software, with a huge range of tools at your disposal. These videos cover a good breadth of topics and often do so in quite a lot of detail. I was a total newbie to AE, but after watching this I felt conversant enough in all the tools AE offers to dive in and do a huge variety of things. I’ve since made a few quite complicated 2D animated videos.

My suggestion is that some diagrams are incredible small and it is impossible to see very important details But you can see those images putting the files that come with the book on your computer. As the Kindle version can be updated I suggest that the author uses one page per diagram.
